Notre Dame Fights Back to Down Mavericks, 5-4

South Bend, Ind.- The University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks fell 5-4 to No. 7 ranked Notre Dame in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play Friday night at the Joyce Center.
The Mavericks are now 5-6-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the conference and Notre Dame improved to 13-4-0 and 9-2-0 in the CCHA.
The two teams will take the ice again Saturday night at the Joyce Center with the puck dropping at 6:05 p.m. CST.
Freshman forward Joey Martin scored his first collegiate goal and the only goal of the period on a power play with helpers from junior forwards Tomas Klempa and Dan Charleston at 4:46 of the first.
Four goals were scored in the second stanza with the first two in favor of the Mavericks. Martin netted his second goal of the night with assists from junior forwards J.P. Platisha and Klempa. Less than two minutes later sophomore forward JJ Koehler expanded the UNO lead to 3-0 after redirecting a pass from sophomore forward Dan Swanson, senior forward Bryan Marshall had the second assist.
Notre Dame cut the Mavericks' lead to 3-2 with a power-play goal from Kevin Deeth and Christian Hanson's clearing shot that took a lucky bounce off the glass straight into the net.
The third period started with two Irish goals from Erik Condra and Dan Kissel giving ND its first lead of the game.
UNO tied the game at 7:57 with a goal from senior forward Mick Lawrence, assists going to freshman defenseman Nick Von Bokern and Marshall.
Notre Dame reclaimed the lead for the final time at 17:54 with a goal from Garrett Regan.
