
Mavericks Sign 3 to National Letters

Three high school standouts from Missouri and Nebraska have signed national letters of intent to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha and play for the Mavericks, head softball coach Jeanne Scarpello announced today.
Infielder Molly Feichtinger from Omaha Marian High School, infielder/outfielder Katelyn Hinton of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Emma Wright, a third baseman-catcher from New Hampton, Mo., are the newest recruits.
The trio, all seniors in high school, will join the Mavericks in the fall of 2008.
Feichtinger(pronounced Fy-chting-er), is the daughter of Matt and Michele Feichtinger. She earned all-class, all-state honors at Marian while playing for coach Al Leaders. She batted .451, scored 27 runs and stole 29 bases as a senior. She was name the Metro Conference's player of the year. An honor roll student throughout high school, she plans to major in pre-nursing studies.
Hinton was an all-conference, district and region pick and was the offensive player of the year for her Lee's Summitt North High School team under coach John Gage. She batted .440 as a senior while driving in 21 runs and stealing 17 bases. She finished her career as the school's season leader in fielding (1,000), doubles (9), assists (74) and double plays (7). The daughter of Richard and Annette Hinton, she was a four-year honor roll student and plans to major in biology.
Wright was a four-time first-team all-conference selection at South Harrison High School in New Hampton. The daughter of Nancy and Toby Wright, she was the team's most valuable player as a junior and a senior and batted .460 last fall in her final season. She was an all-district first-team pick four times and all-region twice.
The Mavericks finished last year 34-20 and ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II after winning their regional tournament to advance to the eight-team championship finals.
