
Mavericks Rally Past Union, 4-2

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Freshman forward Matt Ambroz's first collegiate goal broke a 2-2 tie at 18:59 of the third period and Dan Charleston added an empty net goal to lift the Mavericks to a 4-2 non-conference win over Union College Saturday night at Messa Rink, ending the Dutchmen's six-game home unbeaten streak.
The Mavs improved to 6-8-3 while Union slid to 4-8-3.
Union claimed a 2-0 lead in the opening period as UNO took eight penalties for 43 minutes, including a five-minute major for boarding, two 10-minute misconducts and one game misconduct.
Union's first goal was scored by Chris Potts at 12:26 of the first and the Dutchmen doubled the margin with a power-play goal by Josh Coyle at 18:24.
The Mavs rebounded in the second with a wrap-around goal from senior forward Bryan Marshall at 1:56 after a pass from Brandon Scero. Freshman forward Joey Martin tied the game with assists from junior forwards Tomas Klempa and Charleston at 13:38.
Ambroz beat Union goalie Corey Milan for his first collegiate goal with just 61 seconds left with assists from Scero and Martin. Charleston netted an empty-net goal to finish off scoring for the Mavericks at 19:18 with helpers from Ambroz and Marshall.
UNO ended the game with a third all-time high record for penalty minutes in a game with 71.
