Mavs Test Lake Superior in CCHA Series

The Mavericks host Lake Superior State University at the Qwest Center Omaha Friday and Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. CST. This will be the last Central Collegiate Hockey Association series played by UNO until Jan. 5-6 when the team will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., to face Western Michigan.
The Games
Nebraska-Omaha will host Lake Superior State in a two-game Central Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Qwest Center Omaha Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. CST both nights.
Media Coverage
The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before face-off. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary.
The Records
UNO now stands at 5-7-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the conference. The Lakers are 2-11-1 overall and 0-8-0 in the CCHA.
The Coaches
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 11th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 167-194-48 at UNO overall and has a 94-108-34 mark in the CCHA. Jim Roque is in his third season with the Lakers and currently holds a 38-44-11 record and is 1-1-2 against the Mavericks.
The Series
UNO leads the series with LSSU, 11-6-3 overall and has the advantage in Omaha, 8-3-1. In the last 10 meetings the Mavericks have a 5-2-3 record against Lake Superior State.
Last Meeting
Last season, the teams met in Sault St. Marie, Mich., Jan. 5-6 with both of the games going into overtime, ending in a 4-4 tie and 3-2 loss for the Mavs. Sophomore defenseman Eddie Del Grosso netted four points (1-3-4) against the Lakers and captain Bryan Marshall had three assists on the weekend.
Last Week
The Mavericks were swept by No. 7 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. 5-4 and 5-0. The 5-0 loss was the first shutout on the road since March 17, 2005 when the Mavs were blanked 5-0 by Michigan State.
Coming up
Nebraska-Omaha will travel to Schenectady, N.Y. for a non-conference two-game series Dec. 14-15 against the Union Dutchmen. The Dutchmen and Mavericks have only met once for a weekend series Nov. 28-29, 1997 in Omaha during UNO hockey's inaugural season. The Mavs won the first game 6-3 and were defeated the following night 6-3.
