Lopers Pin 87-71 Loss on Mavericks

KEARNEY, Neb. -- Dusty Jura poured in 30 points to lead Nebraska-Kearney to an 87-71 non-conference win over the Mavericks Tuesday night at UNK's Health and Sports Center.
Denny Johnston and Michael Jenkins each scored 18 points and the Mavericks shot 54 percent from the field, but it wasn't enough to avoid their their third straight loss to fall to 11-13. UNK improved to 19-4.
The Lopers used a pair of 9-0 runs in the first half to take control of the game. UNK led, 47-30 at halftime.
The Mavericks couldn't slice the margin to less than 15 the rest of the way as UNK slowly built that lead up to as many as 26 with less than seven minutes to play.
UNO's all-time three-point leader, senior Zac Robinson, was held to just one field goal and none from behind the arc. But Johnston hit 7 of 8 shots, including all four of his three-point attempts.
UNK, which shot 49.2 percent from the field, outscored the Mvas from the free throw line, 22-11. Nick Morrell added 19 points. Jura, who also collected seven rebounds, was 8-for-16 from the field and 12-for-13 from the line.
UNO resumes North Central Conference action Saturday afternoon, hosting North Dakota at 4 p.m. at Lee and Helene Sapp Fieldhouse in the final regular season home game.
