Mavs Host Ohio State in Civic Series

The Mavericks close their regular season home schedule with a Central Collegiate Hockey Association series Friday and Saturday nights at Omaha Civic Auditorium against Ohio State. Game times are at 7:05 p.m. Friday and 8:05 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets
Less than 1,800 tickets remain, as of Thursday morning, for the two-game set with Ohio State. About 1,000 tickets are still available for Friday night's game and about 700 remain for Saturday. Lawlor's will give tee-shirts to the first 500 fans 12 and under at Friday's game. Saturday, 2,000 UNO team photos will be given to fans attending. UNO attendance this year is up 3 percent over a year ago. Game-day revenue has increased by 8 percent.
Change of Venue
The games are being played at Omaha's Civic Auditorium because the Nebraska state high school wrestling tournament is being held at the Qwest Center this weekend. The later start time Saturday is due to the fact that there is an American Hockey League game the same afternoon at the Civic.
Media Coverage
The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before faceoff. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary. CSTV will originate the telecast from the Civic, with the game available on cable television.

The Mavericks are 13-13-8 overall and are tied for fifth place at 10-10-4 in the CCHA with Ohio State. UNO is coming off a loss and a tie at No. 1 ranked Notre Dame last weekend. Ohio State is 12-13-5 overall and 10-10-4 in the league.

Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 10th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 157-184-45 at UNO overall and has an 87-100-33 record in the CCHA. He is 8-10-3 vs. Ohio State. John Markell is in his 12th season as the Buckeyes' head coach and will bring a 227-205-42 record into the weekend. Markell is 10-8-3 vs. the Mavericks.

Last Games
UNO pushed No. 1 Notre Dame to the limit last weekend, losing 4-2 on Friday, with the Fighting Irish scoring the game-winner at 19:50 of the third, then came from two goals down to forge a 2-2 tie Saturday in South Bend. Friday, the Irish broke a scoreless tie with a goal just 1:43 into the third period. UNO's Jeric Agosta and Dan Charleston scored 57 seconds apart to give the Mavs a 2-1 lead, but UND tied at 11:02. Deeth made it 3-2 at 19:50 and the Irish added an empty-netter after the faceoff. Saturday, UND scored in the first and third before Charleston and Bryan Marshall scored 2:29 apart at 15:48 and 18:17to knot the score. It was UNO's team-record eighth tie of the season.
Coming Up
The Mavericks play their final two-game set of the regular season in Alaska on Feb. 23-24. The best-of-three first round CCHA playoff series will begin on March 2. The top four teams in the final standings receive a bye; the Nos. 5-8 teams host the Nos. 9-12 teams. Winners advance to the second best-of-three round March 9-11.
