No. 6 Sioux Spoil Senior Day

The University of Nebraska-Omaha women's basketball team refused to fold against No. 6 North Dakota on Senior Day, but another slow shooting night cost the Mavericks, as the Sioux took an 81-66 North Central Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavs drop to 15-9 on the season, 3-7 in conference play, while UND improves to 26-3, 9-2.
On a day dedicated to the seniors, it was sophomore guard Alyssa Green who led UNO with 18 points, adding three assists and three steals. But two seniors also had strong outings, as forward Lacey Geitzenauer scored 16, including a career-high four 3-pointers, and tying for the team lead with six rebounds. Karen Thies scored 15, adding four assists and two steals.
The Mavs got off to a quick start, taking an 8-2 lead out of the gate. But UNO would shoot only 30 percent in the half. The defense held North Dakota's offense in check, and a lucky roll on a last-second shot by Alys Shea gave the Sioux a relatively small 35-30 lead at the half.
UNO shot a much-improved 44.4 percent in the second half, but it would not be enough as UND would shoot 58 percent, coasting to the win.
Two Sioux players recorded double-doubles, led by Kierah Kimbrough with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Ashley Langen notched 15 points and 13 boards.
The Mavericks close out the regular season on the road next week, visiting Minnesota Duluth Thursday, then Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday.
