Season Begins With Six Games in Three Days

The University of Nebraska-Omaha baseball team opens its season with six games in just a three-day span. The Mavericks visit Fort Hays State for a Thursday doubleheader, then head to Denver for back-to-back twin-bills against Regis Friday and Saturday.
Bryan Frew swings the biggest bat returning from last year's squad, which went 45-14. Now a junior, Frew hit .380 last season with two home runs, driving in 44 runs, and a .503 slugging percentage.
Senior left-hander Josh Lundin posted a 10-1 record on the mound last year in 13 appearances, 12 starts. He had a 3.92 earned run average, striking out 75 batters, while walking only 25, in 66 2/3 innings of work.
Fort Hays State is 1-3, taking one out of four games against No. 18 Mesa State in Grand Junction, Colo. Senior first baseman Rob Nelson has started all four games, going 4-for-11 with a home run and three RBIs. The Thursday doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
Regis is 4-5 so far this season, but is coming off a four-game sweep at the hands of UC-San Diego. Junior Etienne Materre is batting .344 with five stolen bases and nine runs scored. Each doubleheader begins at 11 a.m. Mountain time.
