Mavericks Complete Sweep of Alaska, 5-3

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Nebraska-Omaha completed its first ever sweep of Alaska in Fairbanks 5-3 after stopping a late rush from the Nanooks in the final game of regular season Central Collegiate Hockey Association play.
The Mavericks clinched fifth place in the conference with its win to end the regular season at 16-14-8 overall and 13-11-4 in the CCHA, while Alaska finished 9-19-6 overall and 7-16-5. The Mavs will host Bowling Green State University next Friday, March 2 at 7:05 p.m. CST at the Qwest Center Omaha.
Scoring for Nebraska-Omaha was once again started by sophomore forward Dan Charleston with the assists from sophomore forward Tomas Klempa and freshman defenseman Ed Del Grosso at 6:15. Junior forward Mick Lawrence gave UNO a two-point lead at 16:57 with assists from junior forwards Bill Bagron and Brandon Scero.
Senior forward Scott Parse had a power-play marker 26 seconds into the second stanza with assists from junior forwards Scero and Bryan Marshall. Scero netted his third point of the night with a goal at 11:47coming off an assist from Bagron.
Nineteen seconds into the third period Marshall made it 5-0 with a goal off of an assist from Parse.
The Nanooks ended freshman goalie Jeremie Dupont's plans for a shutout with two shorthanded goals at 11:58 and 13:36. With 32 seconds left in the game Alaska's Curtis Fraser made it 5-3 on a 4-on-3 advantage.
