Mavs Open Playoffs at No. 13 Augustana

The University of Nebraska-Omaha women's basketball team faces an intriguing opponent in the first round of the North Central Conference tournament Wednesday, as UNO visits No. 13 Augustana. The teams split their season series.
The Mavericks opened the NCC regular season in Sioux Falls on Jan. 4, falling to Augustana, unranked at the time, 70-62. UNO rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to trail by a single point with less than five minutes remaining, but the Vikings scored 10 straight points at that point to break away.
Augustana visited Sapp Fieldhouse on Jan. 25 riding a 20-game win streak and holding the No. 8 ranking in the country. Led by a career-high 25 points from senior Ashley Freerksen, the Mavs played arguably their best game of the season, pulling off a 79-71 upset.
If UNO is able to repeat the feat Wednesday, the Mavs would take on the winner of the contest between No. 20 South Dakota and Minnesota State in the semifinals. The other quarterfinal pits St. Cloud State against Minnesota Duluth, with the winner taking on the top seed, No. 4 North Dakota.
The Sioux host the semifinals and finals March 3-4.
