Mavs to Challenge No. 1 Notre Dame

The Mavericks travel to South Bend, Ind., to challenge Central Collegiate Hockey Association leader and No.. 1 ranked Notre Dame at the Joyce Center on Friday, Feb. 9 at 6:35 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 10 at 6:05 p.m. CST.
Media Coverage
The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before faceoff. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary.
The Records
The Mavericks are 13-12-7 overall and in fifth place at 10-9-3 in the CCHA. UNO is coming off a loss and a tie at home last week to No. 6 ranked Michigan State. Notre Dame is 23-5-2 overall and on top of the CCHA with a 17-3-2 mark. The Fighting Irish rose to the top of the USCHO/CSTV poll this week.
The Coaches
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 10th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 157-183-44 at UNO overall and has an 87-99-32 record in the CCHA. Kemp is 9-9-3 vs. the Fighting Irish. Jeff Jackson is in his second season behind the Notre Dame bench. He holds a 36-24-6 record and is 2-1-1 vs. the Mavericks. Jackson, a 1978 Michigan State graduate, has a career mark of 218-76-31. He led Lake Superior State to NCAA titles in 1992 and 1994 during a six-year stretch as the Lakers' head coach.

The all-time series between the schools in hockey is tied at 9-9-3. The teams split a Thanksgiving weekend series in Omaha this season, with Notre Dame winning 4-2 before the Mavericks responded with a 3-2 victory the second night.
Last Games
Nebraska-Omaha dropped a 5-1 decision to visiting Michigan State, then skated to a 3-3 tie with the No. 6 ranked Spartans on Saturday last weekend in Omaha. MSU seized a 3-0 first period lead before UNO could answer with a goal early in the second by Jeric Agosta. MSU outshot the Mavs, 32-24. Saturday, Scott Parse twice gave UNO the lead with his 20th and 21st goals of the year and Alex Nikiforuk, who figured on every UNO goal over the weekend, scored in the third for a 3-2 edge. Each time, the Spartans answered, however, to forge the tie.

The Mavericks come back home to host Ohio State at Civic Auditorium in the final regular season home games of the year. Game times are 7:05 and 8:05 p.m. After that, UNO will play its final two-game set of the regular season in Alaska on Feb. 23-24.
