New Haven Hands Mavs 2 Losses

ORLANDO, Fla. -- New Haven used solid pitching in the first game and the big inning in the second to hand the Mavericks a pair of losses Monday in the Rebel Spring Games, 1-0 and 9-6.
UNO, now 2-4, will play Indiana (Pa.) at noon, followed by Slippery Rock at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. New Haven is 2-0.
Breanne Gleason struck out 11 and held UNO to three singles in the first game and Nicole Downs stroked a solo home run in the second inning. Alison Jergenson, Leslie Svoboda and Brooke Wagner collected UNO's hits.
In the second game, UNO jumped out front 2-0 in the first inning, but the Chargers retaliated with a six-run second inning, then added three more off Maverick freshman starter Melissa Negrete.
UNO came back with three more runs in the third and a solo run in the seventh. Svoboda had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI, Amanda Bader drove in a pair of runs and Jenifer McDowell had a double to lead the Maverick offense.
