Svoboda Homer Helps Mavericks Earn Split
Mar 13, 2007 | Softball
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Leslie Svoboda's two-run homer in the fifth inning boosted the Mavericks past Indiana of Pennsylvania, 5-1, Tuesday in the Rebel Spring Games to stop a four-game losing skid. UNO, now 3-5, dropped the second game of the day, 4-0, to Slippery Rock.
Taren Kirk shut down Indiana on three hits to earn the win in the first game. Sara Sortino singled, stole second and scored on two wild pitches in the first inning to give UNO a 1-0 lead. Svoboda fueled a four-run fifth-inning with a two run shot.
In the second game Svoboda singled and tripled, but the Mavs couldn't solve winning pitcher Kelly Conron, who gave up just three other singles and benefited from a three-run third inning.
UNO's spring trip continues Wednesday with games against East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m. and Merrimack at 4 p.m. Central Time.
