Mavericks Blank 2 Foes to Wrap Up Trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Cheris Kuster and Taren Kirk each tossed three-hit shutouts as the Mavericks completed a 12-game trip to Florida with a 1-0 win over Massachusetts-Lowell and a 6-0 win over California (Pa.) in the Rebel Spring Games Thursday.
Kirk fanned seven batters and Brooke Wagner drove in the only run of the game in the third inning in the first game of the day against UMass-Lowell.
In the second game, Sara Sortino rapped a bases-loaded double in a three-run first inning to back the eight-strikeout performance by Kuster.
Alison Jergenson drove in a pair of runs and Wagner went 3-for-3 with an RBI as well in UNO's 13-hit attack. The Mavericks improved to 7-5 with the wins.\
UNO's next action will be Mar. 21 when it hosts Emporia State in a home-opening doubleheader at Claussen-Westgate Field at 3 p.m.
