Warriors Drop Mavericks, 8-3

FT. MEYERS, Fla. -- Wayne State (Mich.) pitcher Dan Barnes went the distance, while his team's offense steadily produced throughout the game, leading the Warriors to an 8-3 victory over Nebraska-Omaha in the Gene Cusic Classic Saturday morning.
Barnes (3-0) allowed only one earned run on seven hits, walking three and striking out two, helping Wayne State improve to 11-3 on the season. The Mavericks have dropped three in a row and fall to 8-11 on the year.
Ryan Hines took the hill for UNO, getting touched up for six runs, all earned, on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings. He walked two and fanned five, taking the loss go to 1-2.
Bryan Frew had an RBI single in a two-run third inning that gave the Mavs a brief 2-1 lead. Tyler Cloyd drove in a run with a sac fly in the ninth, but by then the Warriors had put the game all but away as they scored runs in all but two innings.
UNO closes out its Florida trip with another game against the Warriors Sunday morning.
