Mavs Close Out Florida Trip With 7-2 Win

FT. MEYERS, Fla. -- A strong pitching performance and late offensive outburst led the University of Nebraska-Omaha baseball team to a 7-2 victory over Wayne State (Mich.) in UNO's last game at the Gene Cusic Classic on Sunday morning.
Junior left-hander Tim Huber threw seven strong innings for the Mavericks (9-11), allowing two runs, one earned, on just three hits, striking out eight while walking only two. But UNO's offense couldn't provide any support to that point.
The UNO bats came to life in the bottom of the seventh. Chris Weimer tripled to the gap in right center to drive in two runs, then scored on a groundout by Brian Goliber.
Weimer drove in two more runs in the eighth as the Mavs put up a four-spot to blow the game open.
Brandon Dahl pitched the final two innings for UNO and didn't allow a hit to earn the save.
The Mavs will be on the road again later this week. UNO visits Washburn for a doubleheader in Topeka, Kan. Wednesday, then Thursday starts a three-game, two-day visit to Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo. The Mavs finally open the home portion of their schedule Tuesday, March 27, against Emporia State.
