Maverick-South Dakota Game Moved to Vermillion
Mar 2, 2007 | Women's Basketball
Hot off its upset win in the first round of the North Central Conference post-season tournament, the Mavericks will hope to add another against South Dakota on Saturday. The game, originally set for Grand Forks, N.D., will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday in Vermillion, S.D., because of poor travel conditions.
If victorious, the Mavs would advance to Sunday's conference championship game and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. That game would be played in Grand Forks against the winner of the North Dakota-Minnesota Duluth contest, also set for 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Coyotes (21-6) defeated the six seed, Minnesota State, 68-60, led by Bridget Yoerger's 19 points. Yoerger leads USD with 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Jeana Hoffman, who added 16 points and seven rebounds against MSU, averages 11.7 and 3.3, respectively.
South Dakota defeated the Mavericks twice in the regular season. Jan. 18 at Sapp Fieldhouse the Coyotes took a 70-55 victory. They completed the season sweep Feb. 3 with a 68-59 win in Vermillion. The Mavericks hold a 32-29 lead in the all-time series.
The winner will advance to the finals to play the winner of the North Dakota-Minnesota Duluth game. The Bulldogs defeated St. Cloud State 83-79 in their quarterfinal contest. The Sioux are coming off a first-round bye.
