Bowling Green, Mavs Set for 7:05 Faceoff Tonight

The Mavericks will host Bowling Green in a best-of-three first-round Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series that begins Friday night at Qwest Center Omaha. All games will face off at 7:05 p.m.

The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before faceoff. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary.
The Records
The Mavericks are 16-14-8 overall and finished the CCHA regular season in fifth place with a 13-11-4 record. The Mavericks are riding a three-game winning streak. Bowling Green is 7-27-2 overall and finished 12th in the CCHA with a 5-22-1 mark.
The Coach
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 10th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 160-185-45 at UNO overall and has a 90-101-33 record in the CCHA. He is 15-8-1 vs. Bowling Green overall and 3-0 against the Falcons in the playoffs.
The Series UNO holds a 15-8-1 edge in the all-time series between the schools. The Mavericks have swept the four-game series this year and have won six in a row overall against the Falcons. In omaha, UNO is 11-5-0 overall and 3-0 in the playoffs. This is the second straight year the teams have met in the first round of the playoffs.

The Mavericks won at Bowling Green, 4-1 and 7-1, in December and swept a two-game set, 2-1 and 7-0, in Omaha in January. Senior Scott Parse scored six goals and added four assists and was a plus-nine vs. the Falcons in the four regular season games. Jerad Kaufmann recorded the shutout for the Mavericks, making 28 saves. Parse earned CCHA defensive player of the week honors for his role in the 7-1 win, getting three goals and two assists while shoring up a depleted blue line corps.
Last Weekend Nebraska-Omaha swept its first series ever in Alaska last weekend, 4-3 and 5-3, to claim fifth place in the CCHA final standings. UNO overcame a 3-1 deficit in the opener, tying the game with goals by Tomas Klempa and Brandon Scero before Bill Bagron won it 1:22 into the third period. The second night, the Mavs jumped out front 5-0 before the Nanooks sliced the lead in the third period. Jeremie Dupont was named the CCHA goaltender of the week for his performance.

The winner of this weekend's series will advance to the second round of the CCHA playoff series. If UNO wins, it would play at fourth-place Michigan State in a best-of-three series on March 9-11.
