Lawrence Goal Shoots Down Falcons in Overtime

Mick Lawrence's second goal of the game at 4:24 of overtime Friday gave the Mavericks a 3-2 win over the Falcons in the first game of a best-of-three first-round Central Collegiate Hockey Association series at Qwest Center Omaha.
UNO, which improved to 17-14-8 with their fifth victory of the season over Bowling Green, can wrap up the series Saturday night at 7:05.
The Falcons, whose bus didn't arrive in Omaha until less than three hours before the opening faceoff, took a 1-0 first period lead, fell behind by 2-1, then tied the game on a goal by James Unger at 16:06 of the third to force the extra session.
Derek Whitmore took advantage of a turnover and beat UNO goaltender Jeremie Dupont on a breakaway for a 1-0 BGSU lead at 11:33 of the first period.
UNO then came back, tying the game on Dan Charleston's 14th goal of the season at 13:46 of the second on assists from Tomas Klempa and Dan Knapp.
Lawrence's first goal of the game gave UNO its first lead when he converted passes from Bill Bagron and Mike Eickman at 4:35 of the third.
Unger tied the game when he gained control of the puck in the slot area out of a scramble. He turned and beat Dupont over the right shoulder. Jonathan Matsumoto and Tomas Petruska drew the assists.
The winning play was started by defenseman Juha Uotila fed Lawrence, who skated down the left boards and drilled a slap shot from the top of the circle over goaltender Jimmy Spratt's left shoulder.
The Falcons fell to 7-28-2 on the season.
