Mavericks, Lopers Split

Treighton Yates drove in a first-inning run and the Mavericks pushed across an unearned run in the fifth for a 2-1 first-game win over Nebraska-Kearney at Claussen-Westgate Field. The Lopers rallied in the seventh to claim a 4-3 win in the second game and a split of the non-conference doubleheader Wednesday.
UNO is now 13-8 before hosting the UNO Invitational Saturday and Sunday at Dill Field. UNK is 11-9.
Yates doubled to center to score Kellyn Kramolisch in the first inning of the opener. UNK tied the game when Molly Langerak doubled and scored on a single by Ashley Guyle in the fourth.
The Mavericks got the go-ahead run when Chanel Reaves singled, advanced on an infield out and scored on a throwing error in the fifth. Cheris Kuster went the distance for UNO, striking out six, to improve to 7-2.
In the nightcap, the Mavs took a 1-0 lead on Yates' sacrifice fly to score Kramolisch in the first and added another run in the third when Leslie Svoboda walked, stole second and scored on two wild pitches.
The Lopers tied with two unearned runs in the fourth and went ahead in the fifth when Langerak singled home Alissa Larsen. UNO knotted the score at 3 in the sixth when Yates singled, went to second on a wild pitch and came home on Brooke Wagner's line single to left.
UNK broke the tie in the seventh on a one-out triple by Skye Wakefield and a single up the middle by Langerak for her third RBI of the day.
