Mavericks Sweep Northwest Missouri State

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tyler Cloyd tossed a five-hit shutout in the opener and drove in five runs in the nightcap to lead a sweep over Northwest Missouri State 7-0 and 14-5 Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader. UNO improved to 5-6 with the wins.
Cloyd, 1-1, struck out four aand gave up just one extra base hit. The Mavs broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the fourth, highlighted by Evan Porter's RBI double. UNO added three runs on four hits in the sixth. Porter and Chris Weimer each collected three hits in the game.
The Mavericks jumped on the Bearcats for seven runs in the first inning of the second game on just two hits. UNO took advantage of three Northwest Missouri State errors and Casey CKlapperich's two-run double.
Cloyd hammered a grand slam in the fourth and added an RBI single in the Mavericks' three-run fifth inning.
Bryan Hauck, 1-1, earned the win in the second game for UNO, blanking the Bearcats on four hits over five innings.
UNO's next action will be Saturday in a doubleheader at Emporia State.
