Mavs Put Win Streak on Line at Michigan State

The Mavericks, riding a five-game winning streak, will face No. 13-ranked Michigan State this weekend in the second round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs in East Lansing, Mich. Game time will be 6:05 p.m. CST for Friday's first game in Munn Ice Arena.

The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before faceoff. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary.

Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 10th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 162-185-45 at UNO overall and has a 90-101-33 record in the CCHA. He is 8-15-1 all-time vs. the Spartans, including an 0-2 record in the playoffs.

The Spartans defeated UNO 5-1 Feb. 2, with Bryan Lerg netting a pair of goals to go with an assist. The next night, Scott Parse had two goals and an assists to build a 3-2 lead in the third period before Tyler Howells tied the game with 4:05 left to forge a 3-3 tie.

The Mavericks posted a two-game sweep of Bowling Green to extend their winning streak to five games. Mick Lawrence had two goals, including the game-winner in overtime in Friday's 3-2 victory. Brandon Scero notched his second hat trick of the season in Saturday's 7-5 triumph.
