2007-08 Class Expands to 8

The University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team has added eight players to the roster for the 2007-08 season while five more players have signed national letters of intent for the 2008-09 season. The 2007-08 class, compiled of four forwards and four defensemen, will fill in the gaps left by the seven departing Mavs.
The most recent additions to the 2007-08 class are forward Matt Ambrosz and defenseman Alain Goulet. The three players who committed this past fall are defensemen Mike Phillipi and Quinn Waller and forward Joey Martin.
Forwards Rich Purslow and Blake Martin and defenseman Eric Olimb made the commitment to the Mavericks last spring.
Ambrosz, 6-4, 198, from New Prague, Minn., plays for the United States Hockey League's Tri City Storm and has netted 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points in 56 games.
Goulet, Martin, and Waller all join the Mavericks after playing for the Aurora Tigers of the OPJHL. Goulet, 6-3, 195, out of Kapuskasing, Ont., tallied 14 goals and 52 assists for 66 points in 66 games. Martin, 5-10, 170, from Thorold, Ont., has played in 70 games scoring 40 goals and 55 assists for 95 points. Waller, 5-11, 185, out of Windsor, Ont., recorded 7 goals and 57 assists totaling 64 points in 66games for the Tigers.
Blake Martin, 5-7, 150, from Anchorage, Alaska, has played in 51 games for the Sioux City Musketeers tallying 23 goals and 28 assists for 51 points.
Defensemen Phillipi and Olimb currently play for the Indiana Ice in the USHL. Philipi, 5-11, 175, out of Shoreview, Minn., netted 9 goals and 31 assists or 40 points in 55 games played. Olimb, 5-11, 185, from Warroad, Minn., has played in 35 games for the Ice tallying 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points.
Purslow, 5-9, 160, from Greenlawn, NY, finished the season as the USHL scoring leader with 27-55-82 in 60 games played for the Des Moines Buccaneers. He was the 2006-2007 USHL All-Star Selection, Buccaneers MVP, Curt Hammer Award recipient, Buccaneers Fan Favorite Award recipient and was the USHL Offensive Player of the Week for the week of February 5. Purslow is the first USHL scoring leader that the Mavericks have ever signed.
"This incoming class will address many of our issues," Kemp said, "We have significant offensive threats, solid defense capabilities and the size to compliment our core players. I expect this group of young players to provide significant impact on our team in the 2007-2008 season."
