Mavericks Rally For Sweep of Griffons

OMAHA, Neb. -- Evan Porter's walk-off double capped a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, leading the University of Nebraska-Omaha baseball team to a nonconference sweep of Missouri Western, 5-2 and 10-9, Wednesday at Boys Town.

The Mavericks have now won 13 of their last 16 games, and improve to 22-16 on the year. The Griffons drop to 18-20.
UNO won the opening game handily, led by a great outing by starting pitcher Ryan Hines (2-3). The lefty tossed five shutout innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out six. Chris Weimer hit his 10th home run of the year, a two-run shot in the third, helping the Mavs to a 5-0 lead after six innings. The Griffons rallied for two runs in the seventh and had the bases loaded, but Blake Denoyer bailed UNO out, earning his second save of the season.
The second game was a slugfest early on. A two-run double by Bryan Frew highlighted a three-run second inning for UNO, making the score 5-3 in favor of the Mavs after two innings. Missouri Western exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, including consecutive bases-loaded walks. Tim Huber got one run back for UNO in the fifth with his first home run of the season.
Mavericks pitcher Shawn Smith (1-2) prevented the Griffons from expanding their lead any more, throwing the final four innings, allowing just one run on four hits, earning the win after UNO's amazing comeback.
Casey Klapperich led off the inning with a single, then Tyler Cloyd blasted a two-run homer, his fifth of the year, making the score 9-8. With one out, Matt Boro doubled, advancing to third on an error. Frew was intentionally walked to set up a double play, but Alex Kotera's ground ball resulted in just one out, allowing Boro to score the tying run and advancing Frew to second. That set up Porter's walk-off double to right field, driving home Frew.
