MSU's Late-Inning Rallies Sweep UNO

MANKATO, Minn. -- Minnesota State came up big in its final at-bats twice to sweep UNO in a key North Central Conference doubleheader Friday, 2-1, in 11 innings and 6-5. The wins clinched the regular season title and the top-seed for next week's NCC tournament.
UNO is now 25-15 overall and 7-5 in the NCC, while MSU improved to 35-12 and 10-1. The Mavs will now play North Dakota, Missouri Southern and Winona State on Saturday and Upper Iowa and Concordia-St. Paul Saturday in the MSU Invitational.
In the opener, UNO took a 2-0 lead on RBI singles by Kelly Kramolisch and Leslie Svoboda. MSU tied the game in the sixth on an RBI double by Kari Hudson and a sacrifice fly by Katie Reed.
Minnesota State won the game in the bottom of the 11th as Reed led off with a single and advanced to third on a throwing error. She then scored on Mallory Michel's single to right.
UNO scored three times in the third and twice more in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead into the seventh inning of the nightcap. In the third, Svoboda singled home one run and Brooke Wagner followed a batter later with a two-run single. In the fifth, Svoboda singled home Alison Jergenson, advanced to second on the throw, stole third and scored on an error.
MSU opened the seventh with four straight singles for two runs, added another on a fielder's choice and tied the game on a double by Reed. Katie Manis scored the winning run on a bunt by Cindy Smith.
Sara Sortino and Wagner each had four hits in the twin-bill, while MSU's Hudson went 6-for-9 on the day with 3 RBIs.
