Yates Helps Mavericks Earn Split

Treighton Yates drove in four runs to help the Mavericks post a 7-3 win over Minnesota Duluth in Sunday's second game for a split of their North Central Conference doubleheader at Claussen-Westgate Field. The Bulldogs scored three times in the eighth inning for a 5-2 win in the opener.
UNO, now 14-9 overall and 3-1 in the NCC, will host St. Cloud State Monday in a noon doubleheader. UMD is now 10-12 and 1-1.
Yates, a freshman from Bellevue, belted her second home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning of the second game to stake the Mavericks to a 3-0 lead. She also earned an RBI with a bases-loaded walk in UNO's two-run secnd inning.
The Bulldogs battled back with single runs in the second, third and fifth before UNO scored a pair of unearned runs on a dropped pop-up in the sixth.
In the opener, UMD pushed across two runs with a pair of doubles in the third. UNO cut the lead in half in the fifth when Brooke Wagner doubled and scored on a single by Sara Sortino. The Mavs forced extra innings in the bottom of the seventh when Yates, who led off with a single, scored on a two-out single by Beth Harris.
Ellen Colby's two-run double sparked a three-run eighth inning for the Bulldogs.
