Minnesota State Edges UNO, 5-4, for NCC Title

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Minnesota State came from behind the final two innings to edge UNO, 5-4, Saturday for the North Central Conference championship. The Mavericks advanced to the championship game with a 5-2 win over St. Cloud State earlier in the day.
MSU's Jay Bresnahan broke a 4-4 tie with a one-out single to center field to cap the late-inning rally. The win earns Minnesota State an automatic berth in next week's NCAA II regional tournament. The rest of the six-team field will be announced Sunday evening.
MSU broke open a scoreless game with four straight singles to score twice in the bottom of the sixth inning. UNO claimed the lead on Tyler Cloyd's three-run home run, his seventh, in the seventh and made it 4-2 on Chris Weimer's 16th homer of the year in the eighth.
But in the bottom of the inning, Eric Austvold and Kosuke Hattori each drove in runs with singles to tie the game. In the ninth, MSU loaded the bases on singles by Zach Danileson and Josh Simon around a sacrifice and intentional walk before Bresnahan delivered the deciding hit.

Bryan Frew drove in a pair of runs and Josh Lundin held St. Cloud State to just two hits over seven innings to push the Mavericks into the championship round Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 win.
Frew belted his fourth homer of the year to lead off the game. He had an RBI single and scored on a single by Alex Kotera in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Mavericks added single runs in the fifth and sixth. Matt Eikmeier singled home Chris Weimer in the fifth. In the sixth, Matt Boro was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Cloyd.
Lundin worked around seven walks and gave up singles in the third and fourth innings. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth, in all stranding eight Huskies over his seven-inning stint to improve to 5-5.
St. Cloud State scored twice in the eighth off reliever Robert Kearney before Nick Lauver retired the side in order in the ninth for UNO.
