Cloyd, Porter, Weimer Named to All-Region Team

Three University of Nebraska-Omaha baseball players were named to the Rawlings/ABCA All Central Region Team. Pitcher Tyler Cloyd earned first team honors, while shortstop Evan Porter and outfielder Chris Weimer made the second team.
Cloyd, a sophomore from Bellevue, Neb., went 8-2, including six complete games and two shutouts, with a 1.71 ERA and 87 strikeouts. Earlier this month he garnered the North Central Conference Pitcher of the Year award.
Porter, a sophomore out of Millard North High School in Omaha, was also a first-team All-NCC pick. He was named MVP of the Central Regional Tournament, going 8-for-17 with two home runs and seven RBIs to lead UNO to its first-ever NCAA Division II World Series.
Weimer, a junior from Iowa City, Iowa, set a UNO single-season record with 16 home runs, also leading the team in batting average and slugging percentage. He also earned all-tournament recognition, going 7-for-17 with a home run (his 17th of the year) and seven RBIs.
The Mavericks will begin play in the Division II Championship against North Atlantic Region champion Kutztown Friday at 1 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala.
