
Mavericks Open College World Series Friday at 1

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The University of Nebraska-Omaha will open the Division II College World Series against Kutztown Friday afternoon at 1 at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Mavericks (36-22), champions of the Central region, will take on North Atlantic champion Kutztown (49-5) in the tournament opener. The Golden Bears are making their fourth trip to Montgomery, previously reaching the championship in 1997, 2002 and 2004. This season they had winning streaks of 13 and 16 games, finishing the year as the No. 3 ranked team.
UNO's second game will be Sunday at 2:30 or 6:30 p.m. against either Cal State-Los Angeles, another first-time qualifier for the championship, or Tampa, the defending champion.
All of the Mavericks' games in the College World Series will be broadcast on KBLR 97.3 FM. The games will also be available online by clicking on the link provided at the UNO Athletics Web site -- gomavs.unomaha.edu
Mark Kraynak, who calls numerous sports for Cox Communications and Iowa Western Community College, will handle the play-by-play duties. UNO Sports Information assistant Joel Sartan will provide color commentary.
