No. 1 Tampa Halts Mavs' Momentum, 9-2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Defending champion and top-ranked Tampa hammered out 15 hits, defeating the University of Nebraska-Omaha 9-2 Sunday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The Mavericks will take on Cal State-Los Angeles in an elimination game Tuesday.
Tampa (51-10) used aggressive baserunning to get on the board in the top of the first. Craig Corrado legged out a two-out triple, then scored on a leg double by Roberto Mena. UNO (37-23) got the run back in the first. Bryan Frew led off with an infield single and later scored on a fielder's choice from Evan Porter.
But the Spartans jumped on Mavs starter Josh Lundin (6-6) for three more runs in the third for a 4-1 lead. Tim Huber lined a single up the middle with one out in the fourth, scoring on a sac fly by Frew, making it 4-2.
Tampa, who entered the game batting .357 as a team, turned it up from there, scoring three more in the fifth, then adding two in the sixth on a two-run bomb from Mena.
Ross Jackson (9-5) earned the win for Tampa, going seven innings, allowing the two runs on 10 hits, striking out six.
The Mavericks will face Cal State-Los Angeles in an elimination game Tuesday at 6:33 p.m.
