Mavericks Eliminated By CSU-LA, 4-2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The University of Nebraska-Omaha's magical season has come to an end, as Cal State-Los Angeles dealt UNO a 4-2 defeat Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium to eliminate the Mavericks from the Division II College World Series.
The Mavericks finish the season 37-24 after making their first-ever appearance in the championship tournament. The Golden Eagles improve to 45-16-1.
CSU-LA pitcher Hector Molina (10-1) shut down the Mavericks offense, allowing just one run on six hits in six innings. UNO scored in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Frew.
But the Eagles had already built a 3-0 lead by that point, tagging UNO starter Ryan Hines (2-5) for three runs, one earned, on nine hits in his four innings of work. Shortstop Felipe Gallo added a run in the seventh, hitting a solo home run.
The Mavericks let opportunities slip by in the seventh inning, getting two on with one out, then loading the bases with one out in the eighth, but stranding all five runners. Tyler Cloyd belted a solo home run with two outs in the ninth, his eighth of the year, but it was too little too late for UNO.
Arturo Reyes earned his 11th save for the Eagles.
