UNO Falls Twice to Minnesota State

Minnesota State, Mankato pushed across three runs in the top of the 11th inning for a 4-1 win in the opening game, and then scored six runs in the final three innings of the nightcap for a 7-5 victory and a sweep of UNO in a North Central Conference doubleheader Friday at Boys Town.
The teams will complete the regular season with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon at Boys Town.
The two wins clinched the No. 1 seed for Minnesota State before next week's North Central Conference tournament at St. Cloud, Minn. UNO fell to 29-19 on the year and 13-5 in the NCC while MSU improved to 37-7 and 16-1.
The first-game loss spoiled a six-hit, nine-inning pitching performance by UNO's Tyler Cloyd. UNO's Matt Meyer singled, stole second, went to third on an infield out and scored on a throwing error to give the Mavs a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
MSU tied the game in the top of the seventh when Jay Bresnahan tripled with one out and scored on an error. In the 11th, Josh Simon and Eric Austvold delivered RBI singles and MSU added another run on an error off reliever Blake Denoyer, who pitched the final two innings.
MSU scored in the first inning of the nightcap before the Mavs came back to score in the second on Bryan Frew's two-run single and in the third on Cloyd's RBI single for a 3-1 lead.
Minnesota State tied in the fifth after two outs on two singles and three walks off starter Tim Huber. In the sixth, MSU added another on a home run by Pat Ottum for a 4-3 lead off reliever Brandon Dahl. In the seventh, Travis Taran stroked a two-run double and another run scored on a double play for a 7-3 margin.
UNO rallied in the bottom of the inning. Alex Kotera walked, Evan Porter singled and Kotera scored when Chris Weimer reached on an error. After Meyer reached on an infield single, Brian Goliber hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Porter.
