Mavs Score Exhibition Sweep Over Alumni

OMAHA, Neb. -- The 18th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team scored a 34-32, 30-24, 30-25 sweep over the UNO Alumni Saturday night in exhibition action at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
UNO middle blockers Carlie Christensen and Ellen Thommes combined for 27 kills to lead the UNO offense attack. Christensen hit .444 with 14 kills while adding a match-high eight blocks. Thommes tallied 13 kills while adding three service aces and six blocks.
Senior setter Katie Agnew turned in an impressive performance, recording a double-double with 52 assists and 11 digs. Agnew also recorded eight kills and hit .375 while directing the UNO offense to a .250 attack percentage, compared to .076 for the Alumni.
Junior Annie Rice led the Maverick defense with 17 digs and four service aces, both match highs. Sophomore Kayla Jansen added 15 digs and two service aces.
The Alumni was led by All-Americans Amy McLeay and Nikki Mastny-Bails who each notched seven kills in the loss.
The Mavericks will open the 2007 regular season when they host the five-team UNO Classic next Friday-Saturday, Aug. 24-25 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO opens the tournament with a 1 p.m. match on Friday against Montana State-Billings.
