Mavs Upset Fifth-Ranked Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Sophomore Liz Ingram recorded her second career double-double with a career-high 15 kills and 11 digs to lead the 18th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team to a 3-1 (33-31, 30-26, 24-30, 30-28) victory over fifth-ranked Florida Southern at the Florida Southern Classic Friday night.
With the win, the Mavericks improved to 4-2 on the season. Florida Southern dropped its first match of the season, falling to 4-1. Earlier in the day, UNO fell to undefeated Pittsburg State 3-0 (30-23, 30-26, 33-31).
Ingram was joined by three other Mavericks in double figures. Middle blockers Carlie Christensen and Ellen Thommes each notched 14 kills while senior rightside hitter Nicole McLeod collected 13 kills.
Christensen added a match-high eight blocks, while Thommes recorded six blocks as UNO held a commanding 14-6 advantage in team blocks.
Senior setter Katie Agnew registered her fourth double-double of the season with 51 kills and 12 digs, while adding seven kills. Agnew directed the UNO offense to a .214 attack percentage while the Maverick defense held the Moccasins to a .150 hitting clip.
Nebraska-Omaha was led defensively by junior Annie Rice's career high 26 digs.
The Mavericks will continue action at the Florida Southern Classic on Saturday when they take on St. Leo at 11 a.m. and Lees McRae at 2:30 p.m.
