McLeod Leads UNO to First NCC Victory

OMAHA, Neb. -- Nicole McLeod blasted a career-high 19 kills on .643 hitting while recording a double-double by adding 11 digs as the 18th-ranked UNO Maverick volleyball team picked up their first North Central Conference victory with a 3-1 (30-24, 28-30, 30-12, 30-19) win over St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
McLeod, who also added seven blocks, helped the Mavericks snap a three-match losing skid as UNO improved to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in the NCC. St. Cloud State fell to 6-10 and 0-3.
Carlie Christensen addded 16 kills, hit .357, while adding a match-high nine blocks. Also in double figure kills was Liz Ingram who notched 11 to go along with seven digs and three blocks.
Senior setter Katie Agnew directed the Maverick offense to a .338 attack percentage while dishing out 55 assists. Agnew also added six kills with no errors in eight attempts for a .750 hitting clip and registered nine digs.
The UNO defense held St. Cloud State to a .062 hitting percentage as junior Annie Rice led the Mavs with 23 digs. Led by Christensen, Nebraska-Omaha held a 13 to 6 advantage in total team blocks.
The Mavericks will travel to 25th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday, Sept. 25, for a 7 p.m. match with the Lopers.
