Mavs Picked Sixth in Pre-Season CCHA Poll

DETROIT, Mich. - The Maverick hockey team was picked to finish sixth in the 12-team Central Collegiate Hockey Association in pre-season polls by the league coaches and the news media, while defensemen Juha Uotila and Eddie Del Grosso were named to the CCHA honorable mention preseason All-Conference team.

The polls were announced as part of the league's annual media day at Joe Louis Arena Tuesday.

The Mavericks will open their 11th season of play as an NCAA Division I program October 19 against Manitoba in the Mutual of Omaha Stampede at Qwest Center Omaha at 7:05 p.m. UNO will hold its Media Day on Monday, October 15 at 2 p.m. at the Qwest Center.

Miami was the coaches' pick to finish first in the league, while Michigan State earned the nod by the news media.

The Mavericks finished fifth last season with a record of 18-16-8. Notre Dame was last year's regular season and Mason Cup champion in the CCHA.
