Mavericks Travel North to Alaska

Nebraska-Omaha travels to Fairbanks, Alaska, to face off against Central Collegiate Hockey Association rival Alaska Friday and Saturday at 10:05 p.m. CST.

The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before face-off. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary.

UNO now stands at 9-12-3 overall and 6-9-3 in the CCHA, Alaska is 5-8-3 in the conference and 5-11-4 overall.
The Coaches
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 11th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 171-199-48 at UNO overall and has a 97-110-36 mark in the CCHA. Former UNO assistant coach Doc DelCastillo is in his first season as head coach of Alaska and has an overall record of 5-11-4 and a CCHA record of 5-8-3.

Alaska leads the series 18-10-8 but in the last ten meetings UNO has the advantage with 5-2-3. Bryan Marshall leads the scoring against the Nanooks, 7-6-13.
Last Meeting
Nebraska-Omaha hosted the Nanooks Nov. 23-24 and defeated the team 4-3 and tied 4-4. Eddie Del Grosso scored the game-winning goal late in the third to lift the Mavs out of the 3-3 (11/23) and Alaska netted three-unanswered goals to knot the game at four (11/24).
Last Week
UNO was swept by No. 2 Miami for the second time this season. Senior forward Mick Lawrence set a new school record for power-play goals in a season with his tenth and eleventh pp goals in the 6-3 loss Jan. 11.
Coming up
Nebraska-Omaha will be off next weekend but returns to CCHA action Feb. 1-2 at Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. UNO last visited MSU last season for the second round of the CCHA playoffs March 9-10, 2007 and were swept by the future NCAA champs 4-2 and 4-1.
