Uotlia Scores in Overtime to Sweep the Nanooks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Junior defenseman Juha Uotila scored the game-winner 29 seconds into overtime and sophomore defenseman Eddie Del Grosso netted a goal and two assists to secure the Mavericks' second sweep of the Alaska Nanooks at the Carlson Center Saturday night with a 4-3 Central Collegiate Hockey Association win.
UNO held on to fifth place in the CCHA with the conference record of 8-9-3 and 11-12-3 overall. Alaska fell to 5-13-4 overall and 5-10-3 in the CCHA.
T.J. Campbell netted his first goal of the season to give the Nanooks a 1-0 advantage going into the first intermission.
Senior forward Brandon Scero recorded his 100th point with a power-play goal at 2:25 of the second stanza with the single assist from Del Grosso. Junior forward Dan Charleston scored the second power-play goal off of helpers from senior forward Bryan Marshall and Del Grosso.
Alaska's Nathan Lawrence scored right after a face off in the Mavs' zone at 8:12.
After killing off a five-on-three Alaska power play Del Grosso scored a shorthanded goal with the lone assist from Marshall in the remaining seconds of the Nanooks' five-on-four power play.
UAF tied the game with 3:33 left of the third when Jeff Penner scored a power-play goal during the only penalty of the period to send the teams into overtime.
Uotila scored 29 seconds into overtime, with assists from senior forwards Mick Lawrence and Scero to give the Mavericks the win.
