No. 4 North Dakota Prevails Over Mavericks

The University of Nebraska at Omaha women's basketball team suffered its second loss to a ranked opponent this week, falling to No. 4 North Dakota, 86-55, Saturday afternoon in North Central Conference action at Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks (15-5, 1-3 NCC) got off to a good start, as Ashley Nelson kicked off the game with a mid-range jumper, then hit a 3-pointer after Amanda Brodsack also hit from beyond the arc, giving UNO an early 8-3 lead. The Mavs continued to keep pace with the Sioux (18-1, 3-1 NCC) for a good portion of the first half, as the score stayed tight through the first several minutes. UNO held a 16-15 lead eight minutes in. But consecutive baskets by Danye Guinn, one a 3-pointer, started a 10-2 run that put UND up by seven at 25-18. The Mavs battled neck-and-neck the rest of the half, but Guinn scored the last five points of the half giving North Dakota a 42-30 lead at the half.
UNO continued to keep up for the first several minutes of the second half, but a jumper by Kierah Kimbrough at the 13:27 mark started a 10-0 run that put the lead at 22 points. The Mavs went on to shoot only 21.9 percent in the half (30.2 percent for the game), and could not get back with 19 points the rest of the way. The Sioux, meanwhile, shot an even 50 percent in the second half, 54.1 percent for the game.
Brodsack ended the game with 13 points to lead UNO, with Lindsey Klug scoring a season-high 11 points, and Alyssa Green also adding 11. Guinn finished the game with 19 points to lead all players, with 16 coming in the first half.
The Mavericks take on two more NCC foes next week, as UNO visits Augustana Thursday, then hosts St. Cloud State on Saturday.
