No. 4 Mavs Hit the Road With Matches Against SBU a

The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team opens a four-game road trip this week as they travel to Missouri with matches against Southwest Baptist and Northwest Missouri State.
The Mavericks will travel to Bolivar, Mo. on Thursday, Oct. 2 to take on undefeated Southwest Baptist (6-0-0, 5-0-0 MIAA) at 4 p.m. UNO will try to make it two straight games knocking off an undefeated team as they beat previously unbeaten Truman State last week.
UNO will then head to Maryville, Mo. to face Northwest Missouri State (6-2-1, 2-2-1 MIAA) on Saturday, Oct. 4. Game time is set for noon at the Bearcat Pitch.
Last Week
The Mavericks (5-1-0, 3-1-0 MIAA) faced their biggest challenge of the year last week when they played host to then No. 4 Truman State.
After playing to a scoreless first half, the Mavericks scored two goals in a span of 24 seconds to get past the Bulldogs. Senior #Casey Bigsby opened the scoring attack when she headed a ball in goal on a cross from junior Mykala Hanson#. Seconds later, Hanson scored a goal when she worked a give-and-go with freshman #Becca Swanson# to give the Mavericks a 2-0 advantage.
Hanson was also named this week's MIAA offensive player of the week after recording three points on a goal and an assist against the Bulldogs.
The Series
UNO is 2-0-1 all-time against Southwest Baptist. These two schools last faced each other in the 2004 NCAA II Regionals where they played to a 1-1 tie. The Mavericks were able to beat SBU on penalty kicks to advance in the tournament.
UNO will look to continue its domination over Northwest Missouri State, as the Mavs hold a 5-0-0 against the Bearcats. The Mavericks last played the Bearcats in 2004, a 7-1 home win.
The Coaches
Head coach Don Klosterman, has compiled a 162-34-7 overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons, including the 2005 National Championship. Klosterman has also been named the National Coach of the Year two times (2002, 2005).
Southwest Baptist is coached by Benjamin Wade. In his fourth season with the Bearcats, Wade has compiled an overall record of 29-21-12 and has guided his team to the best start in school history this season.
Tracy Hoza is in her sixth season as Northwest Missouri State's head soccer coach. Hoza has a career record of 33-59-12.
Rankings
In the NSCAA/adidas Division II Top 25 poll released on Sept. 30, Nebraska-Omaha is ranked No. 4.
Next Week
The Mavericks will continue play on the road next week when they face a pair of MIAA foes in Kansas. The Mavericks will play Emporia State (3-6-0, 1-4-0 MIAA) on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. and conclude their roadswing with a 6 p.m. match-up with Washburn (4-5-1, 1-4-0) on Oct. 11.
