UNO Announces '09-10 Women's Basketball Signees

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha women's basketball team announced the signing of five recruits for the 2009-2010 season today. Four of the five student athletes hail from Nebraska. Forwards Paige Frauendorfer (Humphrey) and Kiley Herold (Omaha) and guards Sara Reeves (Weston) and Jessica Zaruba (Norfolk) will join guard Jamie Nash (Verona, Mo.) on the Mavericks' team in 2009.
“This is a benchmark recruiting class that will be exciting and fun to watch as they develop together,” said head coach Patty Patton Shearer. “They all come from great winning teams and in addition, their combined grade point average is above 3.8. We are thrilled to have such outstanding young women joining Maverick basketball.”
Paige Frauendorfer is a 6-0 wing who plays for coach Blake Anderson at Humphrey High School. She helped the Bulldogs to a 21-4 record and a third place finish in the state tournament while earning 19.2 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
“Paige has the innate ability to score,” said Patton Shearer. “She is a very athletic player who can always get her hands on the ball.”
Kiley Herold is a 6-1 forward who plays for coach Jeff Ritz at Millard North High School. Last season, she averaged 12.8 points 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. She was named a first team All-Metro selection and a second team All-State pick. Last year, she helped lead the Mustangs to a 21-5 finish and third place in the state.
“Kiley is an extremely versatile player who has the ability to post up, handle a full court press or shoot from the perimeter,” said Patton Shearer. “We look forward to being able to utilize all of her talents.”
Sara Reeves is a 5-6 guard at Wahoo Bishop Neumann High School playing for coach Rick Ahrens. As a junior, she averaged 13.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists. She was a first team All-State and All-Conference selection while playing for a Cavaliers team that went 22-3 and was a state runner-up.
“Sara is athletic, quick and tough,” said Patton Shearer. “In addition, she is the consummate teammate who drives those around her to be better.”
Jessica Zaruba is a 5-6 guard who plays for coach Tim Kassmeier at Norfolk Catholic High School. She earned 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season for a Knights team that won the state championship with a 24-1 record. Zaruba was named first team All-State and second team All-Nebraska.
“Jessica is an extremely competitive and talented guard who has the instinct to impact a game with power and skill,” said Patton Shearer. “She will be fun to watch.”
Jamie Nash is a 5-4 guard for coach Kris Besch at Aurora High School in Aurora, Mo. She was named first team All-Area, All-District and All-Conference during her junior year. She holds the all-time records for assists and steals at her high school. She averaged 10.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 5.9 steals during her junior season with a Houn' Dawgs team that finished 18-12 and was a state quarterfinalist.
“Jamie is the epitome of team player who is easily thrilled with 10 assists,” said Patton Shearer. “Her passing has a 'wow' factor that is very entertaining. She also will be a dual sport athlete for UNO softball.”
The Mavericks return to action on Monday, Nov. 17 when they visit the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
