
Porter Earns MVP Award From Summer League Team

BEATRICE, Neb. – UNO shortstop #Evan Porter# was named the MVP of the Beatrice Bruins at a post-season awards banquet last weekend. The Bruins play in the M.I.N.K. League, a summer circuit made up of teams from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas that began play in 1910.
Porter appeared in every game for the Bruins this past summer, hitting .369 with a team-leading 52 hits and 15 doubles. He was second on the team with 7 home runs. He was third on the team with 38 RBI and second with a .624 slugging percentage. He also fielded the shortstop position at a .956 clip for Coach Bob Steinkamp's team. The Bruins finished first in 2008 with a record of 24-6.
The M.I.N.K. League includes players from Division I and Division II colleges and universities.
Porter, an Omaha native who played at Millard North High School, will begin his senior season at UNO when the team starts its 2009 season in February.
