Mavericks open season versus Regis in Denver

The 2008 baseball season will open in Denver this weekend with four games against RMAC opponent Regis University. UNO enters the season fresh off its first appearence in the Division II Baseball Championships. The Mavericks finished last season 37-24 with second place finishes in the regular season and postseason tournament.
UNO will return five starters from last year's team that made it to Montgomery, Ala. Overall the Mavericks will be returning 9 of 12 letterwinners from that squad that went deep into the postseason. Ryan Hines is the lone returning starter from last years rotation for the Mavs.
The Mavericks will be returning most of its offensive with Evan Porter, Bryan Frew and Chris Weimer all returning for there senior season.
Regis enters the series against UNO with a 1-3 record after losing three of four games at New Mexico Highlands this past weekend. Regis split the two games played on saturday before getting swept on sunday by NMHU. The Rangers were picked to finish third in the RMAC Plains division behind CSU-Pueblo and UNK but picked fifth overall in the RMAC. Last season Regis finished 23-32 and 14-23 RMAC record.
