Mavs' Rally Falls Short, Huskies Hang On, 70-63

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- A late 10-2 run by the University of Nebraska at Omaha reduced an 11-point deficit to three with less than two minutes to play, but St. Cloud State held on for a 70-63 victory in a North Central Conference women's basketball matchup Thursday night at Halenbeck Hall.
Cayla Hargrove scored eight points in the run for UNO, which fell to 16-8, 2-6 in NCC play. She had a total of 14 points for the game, leading the Mavericks. Her 3-pointer with 1:54 remaining put the score at 66-63 in favor of the Huskies. The Mavs couldn't find a way to score the rest of the way, while Katie Tacheny sank all four of her free throw tries to preserve the win.
St. Cloud State improved to 11-13 on the year, 3-6 in the NCC. Talisha Barlow led all scorers with 21 points, adding 10 rebounds. Kayla Rengel also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Rachel Booth scored 16, while Tacheny scored six.
UNO's Amanda Brodsack recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Lindsey Klug scored a season-high 13, as well. Alyssa Green scored 10.
The first half was tightly-contested, as the largest lead was just six points, a 30-24 advantage for SCSU with 5:45 left. A 3-pointer by Hargrove with a minute to play made it 33-32 in favor of UNO, but a jumper by Abby Rittenhouse and a triple by Barlow just before time expired made the score 37-33 for the Huskies at the half.
The Mavericks' next game will be Saturday at Minnesota State, Mankato at 2 p.m.
