Mavericks Tie U.S. National Development Team, 3-3

OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team honored our men and women in uniform Friday night, as they skated to a 3-3 tie in an exhibition match up against the United States National Development Team at the Qwest Center Omaha.
The military themed game jerseys that the Mavericks wore were auctioned off during the game, raising $11,474 for the Bryan McDonough Military Heroes Foundation.
The Mavs will take the rest of the weekend off to prepare for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs later next week. UNO will host a first-round series against rival Alaska at the Qwest Center Omaha beginning Thursday Mar. 6 at 7:05 p.m. The second game of the series will be Saturday Mar. 8, with the third game scheduled for Sunday Mar. 9 if necessary.
The Mavs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first on a power-play goal by Senior Bill Bagron at 3:18 of period. Sophomore Jeric Agosta's shorthanded marker at 13:23 of the first gave UNO a 2-0 heading into the first intermission. Senior Mick Lawrence and Sophomore Eddie Del Grosso picked up the assists on Bagron's goal, while Sophomore JJ Koehler wasw credited with the lone helper on Agosta's score.
The U.S. National Development Team came storming back in the second, tying the game 2-2 on scores by Vinny Saponari at 6:37 and a shorthanded goal by Colin Moore less than a minute later at 7:27.
Lawrence put the Mavericks back out front at 10:55 of the second, snapping a shot from the top of the circle past the U.S. National Development Team goalie Joe Cannata. Del Grosso and freshman Rich Purslow each got an assist on the goal.
But the U.S. National Development Team was able to knot the game at 3-all before the second intermission on a Robbie Czarrik score at 13:20.
UNO senior goalkeeper Eric Aarnio came up with some timely saves to keep the Mavs in the game, turning away a total of 33 shots on the night and helping the Mavs salvage a 3-3 tie.
