UNO Hopes to Make a Move Hosting Coyotes
Feb 8, 2008 | Men's Basketball
The University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team, ranked sixth in the North Central region, will try to get back into the Top 25 Saturday when it hosts No. 4 South Dakota at 4 p.m.
A rally in the final minutes by Augustana led to a narrow three-point loss for the Mavericks (17-4, 3-3 North Central Conference) on Thursday. UNO bounced back for a convincing 93-76 victory at home over St. Cloud State. However, that was not enough to keep the Mavericks' string of seven weeks in the Top 25 going. UNO received seven votes in the Feb. 5 poll, eight short of No. 25 Edinboro.
The Coyotes are 19-1 on the year, 4-1 in NCC play, with the only loss coming
in overtime at Augustana. Since the loss, USD has won five in a row by an average of 22 points, including an 11-point win over UNO at the DakotaDome on Jan. 24.
Dylan Grimsley is averaging 15.2 points on the season to lead the team, but Jesse Becker has led the team in conference play with 17.4 ppg. Tyler Cain is averaging 7.6 rpg, with 8.0 rpg in NCC play. He is shooting .701 on the year.
