Mavericks Split Doubleheader with Bearcats

KANSAS CITY, Mo- Bryan Frew went 5-for-8 to help the University of Nebraska at Omaha earn a split with Northwest Missouri State in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday. UNO (5-5) won the first game 10-2, pounding out 11 hits, but the Bearcats shut out the Mavericks 2-0 to end UNO's four game winning streak in the nightcap.
Dustin Koca picked up the win for the Mavericks to even his record to 1-1 in the opener. Frew was 3-for-5 in game one with a single, double and home run while driving in three runs. Mike Rector also hit a three-run homer for the Mavericks.
Game two was a pitcher's dual between UNO's Matt DeGagne (0-1) and Northwest's Danny Malone (2-0). DeGagne pitched six strong innings, but gave up two runs in the top of the first inning which proved to be the difference in the game.
Frew went 2-for-3 in the second game for the Mavericks to finish off his 5-8 day from the plate.
Malone scattered five hits during his four and one-third innings.
UNO travels to Fort Myers, Fla., March 14-18 for the Gene Cusic Classic in which the Mavericks will play nine games in five days.
