Mavericks Challenge Fort Lewis in Regional Opener
Mar 13, 2008 | General, Men's Basketball
After taking the final North Central Conference men's basketball championship, the University of Nebraska at Omaha claimed the No. 5 seed in the North Central Regional Tournament, and will face the No. 4 seed Fort Lewis on Saturday night.
The game will be broadcast in its entirety on 1620 AM-KOZN at the conclusion of the UNO playoff hockey game against Michigan.
UNO (24-6) and RMAC Champion Fort Lewis (24-5) have met just one time in the past, and it was also in the first round of the North Central Regional Championship, after the 2002 season. The Mavericks took the game, played in Brookings, S.D., 88-58. Five UNO players scored in double-figures in that game, led by Corey Hahn with 15, as the team shot an even 50 percent.
That victory was the Mavericks' 24th of the season, setting a school record. UNO comes into this Saturday's game with Fort Lewis with a 24-6 record, meaning a victory would once again set a new school record.
Should the Mavericks win, they would face the winner of the Winona State-Colorado Christian game. UNO has faced Winona State only four times in the past. The last meeting was in the first round of the 2005 Regionals, won by theWarriors, 64-58, in Denver. The Mavericks have never faced Colorado Christian.
