Mavs Start Florida Trip with Win Over Hillsdale

FT. MYERS, Fla- The Univeristy of Nebraska at Omaha baseball team (6-5) pounded out 10 hits en route to an 8-4 win over Hillsdale (Mich.) Friday night in its opening-game of the Gene Cusic Classic. The game was delayed several hours due to rain.
Dustin Koca collected three hits, including a three-run homer in the top of the third inning to spark the Maverick offense. Josh Shirk registered two hits and drove in a run.
Freshman Taylor Weisbeck (1-0) earned his first career victory for the Mavericks on the mound.
After giving up two runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Mavericks battled back to cut the lead in half in the top of the second. After giving up another run in the bottom of the second, UNO exploded for four runs in the third to take the lead for good.
The Mavericks will continue action at the Gene Cusic Classic on Saturday when they play East Stroudsburg at 9 a.m. EDT and Ashland at Noon.
