Bulldogs Walk-Off With Two Wins Over Mavericks

FORT MYERS, Fla -- Dustin Koca had an impressive day both hitting and pitching for the University of Nebraska at Omaha, but the Mavericks lost a pair of one-run games to Minnesota Duluth at the Gene Cusic Classic, 6-5 and 1-0, Monday morning.
Koca went 2-for-2 with a home run and a double in the opening game. Chris Weimer hit his fourth home run in as many games. Ryan Hines (1-1) suffered the loss for UNO (9-8).
Game two was a pitchers duel, as Koca and UMD's Josh Threlkeld each tossed a shutout through the regulation seven innings. Koca kept the shutout going into the ninth, when Kyle Zweber led off with a walk-off home run. Koca (1-2) allowed just seven hits, striking out four with two walks. Andrew Heieie, who earned a save in the first game, got the win throwing the last two innings for the Bulldogs.
UNO had two hits in the top of the ninth inning, but couldn't get a run home. Senior Matt Meyer had a double for the Mavericks' only extra base hit in the game.
The Mavericks conclude their stay in Florida Tuesday playing two game against St. Michael's, starting at 9 a.m. and noon Eastern.
